A Low Key Weekend - and a Finish!!

GR&DF the weekend was quite slow and easy - I am still on the mend from my cold and Rico has gotten it and was not well all weekend. He seemed to have gotten a bit sicker and was pretty low - while I felt much better but I was still a coughing, hacking mess. So Saturday I made a big pot of Chicken noodle soup....

...and we have been getting it down for two days - I love soups and chicken is one of my favorites. It turned out pretty tasty but I think we may be a the end of our tolerance for another bowl of soup - there is only so much one can get down before you just can't look at it again!!

Dale and I ran around on Saturday - even thought the entire weekend we were fogged over with steely grey skies. It ruined the Blue Angels demonstration that was to happen. This is the yearly Fleet Week here in SF and part of it is the Blue Angels and all the flying they do over the city. Friday practice was really spectacular but very loud. On late Sunday afternoon they had a couple of fly overs but not the full on demo's. Back to Saturday - here is a snap of the few things I picked up -

The books where a $1 a piece - and you know how I love transferware - after going through the dishwasher the plate went onto my stack of b&w plates and the little pitcher went into the cupboard. I am not sure what the reason for the handle to be on the side is but isn't it sweet. I think it might just be a cream pitcher - but if there is a really reason please let me know, thanks.

This weekend - I finished up "Sail Away" and I think it turned out rather nice - here is a really crappity snap, but you can get the idea....

I also worked on some exchanges and as per usual I needed to get a couple of DMC colours I did not have. So off to Joann's I went and while I was there I picked up these little beauties....

They had 3 pairs left and each one had a slightly different Tartan situation on the handles - I picked the ones that were most cover by the tartan - they certainly do look like Christmas to me!!

I think that's about it for today - Thanks for stopping by!!

Take Care,
edgar

  1. Glad you're feeling better :) The chicken noodle soup looks delicious!! I know what you mean about only being able to "get just so much down" and that's it for chicken noodle soup for a while. I made some a couple weeks ago for my DH and me and the last bowl got tossed. I could have put it in the freezer but I was sick of it by then and besides...I like fresh.

Sail Away turned out nice. It should be lovely framed :)

Hope you have a better week than last :)

  2. I actually learned about those ginghers late last week--boy are they super!! I was thinking that they would need to be my first pair ever, but then I heard that they are only at Joann's And of course I have No Idea where those are in NJ!! Great deal on books--Mom and I actually went to a couple of Garage Sales this weekend--I was even thinking of taking a page out of your book and posting pics of my "haul"!

I agree completely on the chicken soup issue.

  3. You could always package up the rest of that delicious chicken soup and send it across the ocean but then again I don't think it would survive the journey. Maybe I will package up myself to come over and finish it up!

Sail Away looks fantastic and those tartan scissors are to die for!

There's another freebie on my blog if you are interested?

  4. I'm so sorry that Rico ended up sick too. Such is the way it goes though when you have others living in the same household. That soup does look good. Son of a Witch looks interesting. Nice job on Sail Away! And those scissors are super! As far as the pitcher goes...I used to work in a restraunt years ago and when a customer wanted more ice I would have to pour from the side of the pitcher. I wasn't good at that and I usually spilled some on the table. I thought it would be easier if the handle was on the side. Maybe the was the concept of the maker of the little pitcher you picked up.However that pitcher you have is a lot smaller and I don't think it would be used for that.Who knows. I'm like you, that is probably a cream pitcher. Here's to hoping that this week is better for you than last week!

  6. Great little pitcher! I am wondering if it might be a syrup pitcher. Will ask Mother next time I call her why the handle is on the side, she will know. Nice set of books, can't wait for your review of Son Of A Witch. That is written by the same author as Wicked. Hope you and Rico are both feeling better today.

  9. Oh gosh, I hope you and Rico get better fast! It's such a bummer to be sick, even if it's just a cold. I love your Sail Away finish -- I need to get moving on mine! As for those books -- great reads all! Those Colleen McCullough books are part of a series in case you didn't know. I think there are 5 in all? I loved them soooo much! I've been thinking recently of reading them again. It was nice cause my father read them too, so we got to share the books with each other. That doesn't happen too often. And the Gregory MacGuire book -- he's a great writer too!

  10. Sorry to hear you are still feeling bad and now Rico too. :( Hope everyone is well in your household soon! The finish is beautiful! Don't you love great deals on books? Our library had their semi-annual sale this weekend and I got 20 books for 4 bucks. Then went back at the end and got 3 more for a quarter total- they were trying to get rid of them all. ;)

  16. Soup is making me hungry! Yum... When wait staff want to include ice with your beverage, they turn the pitcher to the side, but for a creamer I'd guess it's probably just to make the set unique. Nice book buys, too. Lovely stitching you've done!
