A Little More Christmas....

Gentle Friends, our Christmas started off with a visit to the Flower Market Christmas Eve morning so that Rico could pull together one of his table arrangments for Dinner on Christmas Day....
here's the result....

... I failed to get a better picture before dinner so here's the best shot I have.... made up of roses, lilies, nandina berries, pine, juniper, laurel leaves, and some super variegated cabbages, it was another tour-de-force al la Rico!!  and the table was all the better for it!!

We attended Midnight Mass (at 10 pm) and it was a lovely, we got home around 11:30 pm and it was off to bed.... the next morning we had a sour cream coffee cake and some sausage pinwheels... we had some friends coming over for Christmas Dinner so I got moving on that meal mid morning.....

Here's the table before we sat down.....

...  to eat at around 4....  the menu was...
Baked ham
Dinner rolls
cranberry /dried cherry sauce
green beans with toasted almonds
mashed potatoes
Melon Pickle

... and as the tradition in my family I had made a Birthday cake for baby Jesus...  this year it was...

... my take on a traditional Sugar Plum Cake with a cream cheese frosting,
which we served with a nice champagne....

... the cake was deliciously moist if a bit crumbly, but everyone enjoyed it and was a total winner!!

  4. Sounds and looks a delightful Christmas!!! the last time I went to midnight mass it was really at midnight, and lasted 3 hours!! (Well, 2:45, But then you must add an hour because we came for the carol hour at 11!) Ten sounds a much better time, and one I would consider re-introducing to our celebration! As for us, we had a nice cheese plate (4 cheeses for two people--ah, but cheese! With some super French lavender honey and a cassis jam, and fruits, and champagne for Christmas Eve, then on the day we went to the dinner of our good friend's father's lady friend, where the theme was "English Christmas". So we had beef with Yorkshire puddings, Brussels sprouts, scalloped potatoes, and a fantastic inside-out stuffed mushroom side. Desert was plum pudding AND mincemeat pies with hard sauce. (And so many other things like an Italian cookie tray and some pecan fudge i'd made as well!) what a weekend of feasting!

  6. Dearest Edgar: Rico is a master at table decorations, so beautiful you rock Rico.
The cake for Baby Jesus looks so yummy, I only did a yellow cake with deep dark chocolate this year.
I hope you are planning something fun for new Years Eve, we are just hanging out at home and I will no doubt watch the ball drop by my self, I am sure Mike will be sleeping by 10:00 P.M. so it will be me an the little critters watching TV.

    Happy New Year

  11. Rico's arrangement looks great and it certainly compliments the lovely meal.

We did the "too much food" southern traditional Christmas meal with ham, turkey, stuffing (known as dressing in these parts) sweet potatoes, mac n cheese, green bean casserole (for mom), dinner rolls, cranberry sauce and more.....

Our midnight mass starts at 10 with a carol hour. We got home a little after one a.m.
